David was a small boy and son of Jesse. he has two brothers. David was a shepherd who took care of sheep and have fought of many predators before like lions and bears. One day a war broke out between the philistines and the israelites. In the philistines there was a champion called Goliath. Goliath was about 3 metres tall and wore a whole suit of heavy armour. Goliath said this to the Israelites " whoever defeats me will have the philistines as slaves but if we defeat your champion you will serve us". No one dared to fight against Goliath they were all too scared until one day David had to go to the battlefield to give his brothers( who were in the battle ) some food. He went there and saw everyone cowering from Goliath. he asked everyone about the situation and when he heard it, he went to find the king, saul, to see if he could battle this mighty beast. Saul laughed at the very thought of it. He exclaimed your just a boy what can you do, but instead of taking offense,David said this " the Lord is with me with him all things are possible." Because of this answer Saul said okay to his request and said" at least take my armour" but it was too heavy so all he had in the end was a sling and a few rocks. When david went out on the battlefield, Goliath laughed at the sight of David. The philistines thought they were mocking them and charged at David. David saw this and quickly took out a rock put it in his sling and struck Goliath right in the forehead. Goliath fell straight down and David killed him and took his head. The philistines saw this and were scared and so they started running but the israelites gave chase and soon the battle was over and David was a HERO.
this passage mean that even a small boy could defeat a massive giant. it doesn't matter what size you are, as long as God is with you, you will be victorious. As long as you trust in him that he is your living saviour you will be able to overcome everything.
our picture today is trust in the lord with all your heart as if David did not trust the Lord he would not have the courage to go into the battlefield but since David did trust in Lord he ended up victorious
